This gilt bronze figure represents a Bodhisattva, a holy being who has obtained the final enlightenment and has chosen to return to the world to help humanity. It is a very rare example of devotional image from the Eastern Wei dynasty (534-550). Images of Bodhisattva were used in temples and shrines, and were particularly popular among devotees. The inscription on this example dates the object to AD 534 and mentions a placed called Tangxian in north China where this piece was probably made. Only two other examples of this type survive from the period, one in the Freer Gallery in Washington DC, the other in a private Japanese collection.

这尊鎏金铜像表现了一位菩萨——一位已证得究竟觉悟、却选择重返世间救度众生的圣者。它是东魏时期（534-550年）极为罕见的佛教供奉像实例。菩萨像供奉于寺院殿堂或佛龛之中，在信众中尤受尊崇。像上铭文将其年代确定为公元534年，并提及一个名为“唐县”（Tangxian）的华北地名，此像或即造于该地。此类型造像现存仅见其他两例，一藏于华盛顿特区弗利尔美术馆，另一例为日本私人收藏
